With the outbreak of the European energy crisis, global coal demand has increased, which is a development opportunity for the coal industry in Africa. Coal in Ethiopia and Tanzania in Africa has also ushered in development in this demand, which is of great significance to Tanzania's economic development, such as employment, infrastructure construction and improvement.Take the coal development in Tanzania as an example. Tanzania's coal resources are mainly distributed in RUVUMA and NJONBE areas. They are currently developing. 

The bottlenecks of development are:


1. Mining technology is not advanced, investment costs are relatively high, and Africa lacks funds, which limits the development of mineral processing;

For this problem, foreign investment and cooperation are needed


2. Cost of mining equipment is expensive,if be rented, the cost of renting equipment is $500/day, while South Africa is only $150-200/day.


3. Transportation costs are relatively expensive;

The price of raw coal at the mine: $50/t, the port is $130/t,

The distance from Njonbe to the port is 800km, and the transportation cost is $50-60/t


In summary, the price of raw coal is lower, the production cost of clean coal is relatively higher, and transportation cost is expensive. In the competition in the international market, it may not be very competitive, So, there is very big potential of economic benefit of coal resources, which needed to be brought into play.

African coal mining companies are eager to convert resources into funds as soon as possible to invest in the next round of production, expand the production of clean coal, improve the quality of clean coal, so that it can compete with other coal in the international coal market and improve economic benefits.


Solutions

From the perspective of reducing production costs and transportation costs, there are two methods to solve the problems: Coal Washing Preparation & FX Dry Coal Preparaiton


Coal Washing Preparation

After the raw coal is mined, it contains high sulfur content in raw coal. Without coal beneficiation processing, if sell it directly, and the transportation cost is high,unit cost is lower. However, after being processed by coal washing preparation plant, the sulfur content of coal from South African companies is relatively lower about 1%, and the selling price is relatively high, and the yield is relatively high. However, the investment cost of traditional coal washery is higher, and it is not a very economical investment for thermal coal, lignite, low-grade coal and other types of coal,which are not sold at high prices. Meanwhile, Africa and Tanzania coal mines and companys are just starting the coal industry with limited finance.


FGX/FX Dry Coal Preparation

Tangshan Diro Technology develop FGX/FX dry coal preparation technology successfully solves the problems of coal processing, reducing transportation costs and reducing investment costs, filling the gap in this market.

1. FGX/FX dry coal separation technology can remove min 98% of the gangue from raw coal, and this part of the gangue will not be involved in sorting and transportation. So, coal mines can easily figure out the transportation cost reduced per ton,which depends on the gangue content in the raw coal. Take an 120t/h dry coal separation plants example, Enterprises can evaluate it by themselves to see how much cost can be saved and how much profit can be created in a year. 2. If sulfur exists in pyrite, then sulfur can basically be removed, and the sulfur content can be reduced to about 1%, which improves the quality of clean coal and makes the price more competitive;


3. The calorific value of clean coal can be increased by about 500-1500Kcal/kg.

Enterprises can also evaluate how much the profit of this part is increased, and you will find that this technology is very ideal.


This can achieve several benefits:

1. Save water costs;

2. Save transportation costs, this part of the gangue will not be involved in transportation; 

3. The coal processing cost is also reduced


The process flowchart of FGX/FX technology is relatively simples, so the investment cost is low, but it focus on coal deshaling & improving the quality of clean coal and increases profits. It is especially suitable for thermal coal preparation, low-rank coal processing, and coal de-shaling.

 

FGX was successfully developed in 1989, and its original purpose was to remove gangue and improve quality. Basically, 98% of the gangue in raw coal can be removed, and all the sulfur existed in pyrite can be removed. The clean coal content in the gangue is about 2%, and the average ash reduction is 5%-20%,the higher gangue content the more ash reduction. This technology contains relatively few equipment, so the investment cost, operating cost, and maintemance cost are very low. The operating cost is about US$0.6/ton. So, be suitable for thermal coal sorting, low-rank coal separating, and raw coal gangue removal.

The separating performance is very ideal. Many dry coal separator plants have been built around the world.

 The most ideal one is the 3.0Mt/a dry coal preparation project built for Candiato II-Phase Power Plant in Brazil, which reduces sulfur and solves the problem of boiler wear. In Texas, the United States, a FGX-25A dry coal separator was built for Texas Power Plant. It has been in operation for more than 10 years.
